I've heard that folks in British Columbia call Ontario, On-terrible. Makes you think.   :)

I love Google. This site focuses on its strengths and nothing else. For that reason using Google is quick and easy. Its not plastered with distracting information such as ads or news headlines like some of the other directory/searching sites. But Google sure knows how to add a touch of spice to their Logo.

Happy New Year!

Don Box: "COM was like an ugly woman with a heart of gold. You really had to want to fall in love, but once you did, it was forever. Java was like a beautiful woman with horrible breath. Sure she looks great from across a crowded room, but you really need to overlook certain annoyances if you plan on spending any time with her."

As you can see I've finally got rid of all the advertising. I hope you like it.

Merry Christmas!

We're arrived back in Canada on Thursday evening and we are fairly jet-lagged, especially little Joshua. We actually had really good timing. Friday night the snow began to fall. Here are some pictures of the snow.

Well I'm off to meet my family in South Africa. I'll post lots of pictures when I get back. I don't think I'll be able to update my weblog while I'm there. The elephants keep dragging the telephone poles away so you just can't get reliable Internet access.

If you need to get hold of me while I'm away feel free to email me and I'll try to respond as soon as possible. If you're interested in buying my car speak to Garth Kerr.

Disclaimer: I've never heard of CEO Traveler but I found some nice pictures on their site using Google's Image Search.

I've updated my Websites page with some interesting new links. Check it out!

Thursday, 22 November 2001 (later)

Read what people have to say about me! I've updated my References page.

My car is now advertised in the Auto Trader. What a sad day. If you want to check it out go to the Search page.

Every now and then I find myself needing to extract an icon from a file. And every time I end up bending over backwards to get this done. So I decided I'd write a little program that will make my life a lot easier. Well it started out simple. As you can see in the screen shot on the right, Icon Browser lets you specify a file and it will display all the icons that it contains. That was the easy part, it took me about 45 minutes and I had a really cool little icon viewer written in C# and using the .NET Framework. The hard part is saving a single icon to an ICO file. Turns out there's no simple way to do this and you actually have to figure out the ICO file format and write bytes directly to the file stream. So a few hours later I'm writing some funky code in C++ to read the RT_GROUP_ICON resources from executables and DLLs and converting them to the ICO format. Tomorrow I'll post the code and the application here so that you don't have to go through the same pane yourself. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every minute of it!

Red-eye can ruin the best of photos. So I went to Google for help and came up with Get the Red Out. It shows you how to remove red-eye using Adobe Photoshop, my photo-editing tool of choice. Why I mention this, besides for the fact that its a really good explanation of how to remove red-eye with Photoshop, is because the guy narrating the QuickTime video sounds just like one of the agents from my favorite movie, the Matrix. So if you enjoyed The Matrix and enjoy dabbling with Photoshop be sure to check this out!

Needless to say I still need a lot of practice removing red-eye. Now if you're looking for a professional designer, then speak to Robbie de Villiers.

I've updated my Photo Gallery with some great new photos of Joshua. I think he's going to be an actor one day. He already does a great impression of King George.   :)

Europe has the Open University. The USA has the United States Open University. South Africa has UNISA. What about a correspondence university for Canada? If you know tell me about it!

Monday, 5 November 2001

I've updated my resume. If you don't have time to check it all out you can download the condensed Word version.

Sorry about all the adverts. I will be moving to a better service-provider/service-plan at some point, which will mean the end of all those distracting ads.

Sunday, 4 November 2001

I've updated my Code Corner. There you'll find a bunch of tools and source code that you can use freely. I will be adding more goodies on a regular basis.

I've added the Photo Gallery.

Thursday, 1 November 2001

My wife Karin and my son Joshua are leaving for South Africa today. I will only be able to join them in four weeks as I can't afford to take so much time off work. Needless to say that today's emotional index is at an all time low.

Just when you think it can't get any worse ... it gets worse.
